In an increasingly complex coaching landscape, technical skill alone is not enough to create meaningful transformation. The quality of the coaching relationship, and the presence of the coach within it, remains the most powerful lever for impact.
This 60-minute session introduces a Who-centred approach to coaching, drawn from the forthcoming book Put Who First: A Human-Centred Guide to Leading Yourself and Others. The session explores the distinction between coaching the content of a client’s story and coaching the person within the story, and how this shift enables deeper awareness, ownership, and sustainable change.
Participants will explore how presence, emotional regulation, and reflective practice influence coaching effectiveness, and will be introduced to a practical conversational discipline to support deeper client thinking. The session also addresses how coaches can work skilfully with tension, emotion, and avoidance by “naming the dynamic” while maintaining trust and psychological safety.
Designed for trained coaches, this session explicitly aligns with the ICF Core Competencies and integrates ethical considerations related to presence, partnership, and professional responsibility.
